Places to visit in & around Kufri

Kufri

Kufri is a small hill station famous for its cool and salubrious climate in the summers and the snow covered peaks in the winters. It is the venue for winter sports festival which is annually organized by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department. It has some notable tourist attractions like Kufri Fun Campus, Hip Hip Hurray Amusement Park, Indira Tourist Park, The Himalayan National Park, Mahasu Peak and Chini Bungalow.

Kufri Fun World

Kufri fun world has one of the best water parks in Shimla. Apart from being a tourist attraction it also serves to the local population. It is located on the top of Mahasu Peak and is established right next to the National highway – 22 which makes it easily accessible for people. Kufri fun world features number of amusements for kids as well as adults, which includes a go-kart track, swinging boat and a haunted house for some thrill and goosebumps.

Bhalku Road

Baba Bhalku was an uneducated poor belonging to a very remote part of Himachal Pradesh. He is not a very well known historical figure despite the fact that he played a significant role in construction of the Shimla-Kalka Railway line. Initially he was a Chaprasi in Lord Dalhousie’s dream project of Hindustan-Tibet road. For his contribution in the success of the railway line esp. Barog tunnel in Solan, a dense deodar forest road near kufri which directly connects with mashobra is named after him.

Bhalku Road

Baba Bhalku was an uneducated poor belonging to a very remote part of Himachal Pradesh. Horse Riding

Horse Riding is one of the most fun loving activity that tourists endulge themselves in Kufri. Apart from just being a tourist activity, its is also one of the major earning alternative for local people.

You can take a horse ride to the Mahasu Peak and back. One can also chose to rent a horse and follow the trek trail towards Deshu Mata Temple, Galu.

The road is muddy and can not be covered on foot unless you are willing to get dirty, you can hire horse/mule to complete this small trek to the top of Kufri town.

Fagu is a serene snow-clad hamlet, located around 45 minutes drive from Shimla. It is known for its apple plantations, sowing fields and the snow-covered Himalayas in the backdrop. It is popular amongst trekkers and naturalists. It is believed that Fagu has derived its name from the word ‘fog’. It remains covered in fog for almost 9 months a year. The whole place is enveloped by lush green pine and cedar trees.  Potato Fields are also common to spot. You can also sight animals such as snow leopards, yaks and ponies that are inhabitants of Fagu.

You can also spot the flora and fauna through the spotting scopes available near the Hasan Valley. You can also hire a bicycle and enjoy the ride through the the dense deodar forest of sanctuary.

The Naldehra Golf Course is among the highest and the oldest golf course in India and was established in 1903 by Lord Curzon. It used to be a 9-hole course but it was later transformed into a 18-hole course. You may also choose to visit the Chalet’s to have a delicious meal at their revolving restaurant.
